hobblepot. If you'd like canon Oswald, that's where he's at!
Like it says on the tin, this is an AU account made on a whim for whenever I have a hankerin' for supernatural nonsense alongside regularly scheduled Gotham craziness. It's actually kind of amazing how well the idea of a vampire Oswald fits into Gotham canon without having to dramatically change canon events.
BUT YES.
While I haven't hammered all the details about Vamp!Wald, here's some quick information that I can 'confirm' at this point:
Strengths:
✓ regenerative abilities - not instant, but speedier than an ordinary person. his body can gradually push non-silver items lodged inside him out of his muscles and skin.
✓ good wall-climber/scuttler
✓ unaffected by garlic, running water, religious iconography, and holy water
✓ strong sense of smell, hearing, and improved night vision
✓ stabbing him through the heart isn't an instant death for him
Weaknesses:
✗ silver - it BUUUUURNS like a bitch; if shot with a fragmenting bullet, he can't properly heal and it will weaken him until all pieces are removed. silver also has the added effect of paralyzing him by way of 'silver poisoning'. the closer the silver impaling object is to his heart, the faster it takes effect. oswald can be kept in a "silver coma" - essentially a state not unlike being awake during surgery, where everything can be seen, heard, and felt - for years until the impaling object is removed from his chest or he is killed.
✗ wood - has a little more stopping power than any other impaling object, silver aside.
✗ penetrating the heart, through and through - unlike most vampires, he won't die instantly. lots of pain, though. If he can get the object out and a) find someone to feed on and b) refuge, he might survive it. silver is the most effective at wrecking his shit; then wood; then any other object.
✗ sunlight - doesn't immediately combust, but burns alive
✗ not particularly strong esp. compared to other vampires - his bite is the strongest part of him
✗ has a tendency to go Feral, that is to say, fall prey to his own savage predatory instincts, so his self-control could use some work
✗ decapitation
✗ he's going through vampuberty... so he's undergoing a lot of strange, uncomfortable body-horrorish changes on occasion.
✗ heightened senses means constant shrill, loud noises or strong smells can be highly distracting or send him packing outright
Misc:
➜ he's stuck with the limp and it fucking sucks
➜ he sweats and cries blood. and you know him, he gets teary-eyed pretty quick. what a big waste of blood.
➜ heart still thumps every now and again, but it doesn't serve much of a purpose other than giving enemies a target to aim for.
➜ downing solid food makes him throw up. he can't handle it.
➜ he'll know if a person is diseased or drugged from the taste of their blood.
➜ sedatives and painkillers have no effect
Appearance:
When Oswald is not hungry, aggressive, or feeling or being threatened - fully in control, in other words - he looks near-identical to how he appears in canon. Chewed-up nails, pale complexion, ordinary human teeth, and shadows around eyes. He does, however, have a bluish tinge to his lips.
When triggered, his facial features will sharpen and his teeth will begin to change, gums bleeding as new teeth come in. His nails will also elongate and sharpen. Immediately after feeding, the whites of his eyes temporarily fill with blood from the head rush. This will sometimes cause him to 'cry' crocodile tears.
